Over the course of week 2, we've been given a chance to expose ourselves to new reading methods and how to engage with the text effectively. The most valuable lesson I learned from those activities was the importance of good preparation to produce a good writing piece. Since the lesson is closely linked to one of our course objectives, I know I am on the right track at finishing strong as a better writer and communicator. "Understand the importance of having a process when you are composing a text." You cannot write without going through certain stages. As I answered the discussion question of week 2, I realized that the annotation from the reading and the video Killing Us Softly 4 by Kilbourne helped me tremendously in summarizing the main ideas into critical points.

This is a short excerpt from my recent writing assignment. By utilizing sources from the video and annotated carefully, I processed Kilbourne's idea and developed it into my thinking. The focus was on our perceptions about gender roles and equality for both sexes. While drawing out connections with my personal life, I recognized how influential and impactful advertisements could be and how the misleading ideas were emphasized as something rightly that our society looks up to.
Furthermore, I ensured that my goal was clearly defined and what it will take to achieve it. In this case, I am taking a step closer towards approaching the course question. By continually reflecting and analyzing my work, I am looking forward to improving my writing skills as well as critical thinking skills. A professor once told me, "Each class is a chance to exercise your brain, so take advantage of it and don't let these privileges go to waste."

Hi Iris! I never really thought of the annotations as a way to teach us the writing process for every post we make. I was so focused on the bigger picture, the essay, that I forgot that these discussion post are also writing pieces that needs to be efficiently put together by going through the proper writing process.
